Adjusting digital images PDF Print E-mail
Very often the digital images that were snapped by digital camera or scanned with a scanner are not as clear as we want. They often are dark, with low contrast, blurry or pale colored. This images need to be adjusted or retouched. The easiest way is using special photo editing software like PhotoPaint and Photoshop. The both software products have tools which adjust images automatically. This tools works quite well for most of the pictures.

They often are dark, with low contrast, blurry or pale colored. This images need to be adjusted or retouched. The easiest way is using special photo editing software like PhotoPaint and Photoshop. The both software products have tools which adjust images automatically. This tools works quite well for most of the pictures.
Here you can learn how to made automaticlly correction.
Just after we opened the image with the software we choose from the menu Adjust/Auto Adjust за PhotoPaint and Image/Adjustments/Auto levels, Image/Adjusments/Auto Contrast and Image/Adjustments/Auto Color for PhotoShop. In PhotoPain the automatic correction adjusts the contrast and the colors of the image. In PhotoShop we must to make one correction for contrast and one for the colors.
When we make automatic correction of a picture in PhotoShop and PhotoPaint we see that the PhotoPaint software makes much better automatic corrections for pictures with soft and warm colors. PhotoShop makes better correction for pictures with cold and saturated colors.
In most cases the automatic corrections are not enough to bring the realistic look of the image and manual corrections must be done. To do manual corrections in PhotoPaint you must go to Adjust/Image Adjustment Lab. In the window that does appear we can see the image. Right on it there are some sliders. With their help we can adjust the colors, the contrast, the brightness and etc. When we make a change we can watch the effects that they make on the image.
We can find the manual correction in PhotoShop in Image/Adjustment/Levels, Image/Adjustment/Color Balance and Image/Adjustment/Brightness Contrast. Here in PhotoShop you can watch the effects too.
When we make manual correction we must observe some basic rules. When we adjust the contrast we must not make the image too sharp, because the image will become too sharp and the defects of the image and the dark objects in it will be much remarkable. On other hand if we lower it to much we shall loose the smaller details of the image and it will become blurry.
When we adjust the colors of the image we must observe to do not pale the image too much or make it more colorful than the real one – if we do this we can make it much darker and loose a lot of its details.
To adjust the contrast of the image we must observe the dark and light objects in it while we adjusting it. The dark objects must be clear but not too much because we shall “burn” the image and we shall loose the light objects.
The manual correction must be done very carefully and if it necessary we can make it again for better result.
